Southern Series: McGregor Leads Formula and MAZDASPEED Points

Lakeville, Conn. (Apr. 08). One race remains in the Formula Skip Barber Southern Series Championship and the Skip Barber Southern MAZDASPEED Challenge and Thomas McGregor is currently leading the points in both championships.

Heading into the previous weekend at Palm Beach International Raceway, McGregor held a 15-point lead over Ashley Freiberg in the Formula Skip Barber Southern Series Championship. With one race remaining, McGregor’s lead expands to 17 points. With three wins and two poles, Scott Anderson moved up to second in the championship, moving Freiberg to third, 14 points behind. Rookie Alejandro Abagoto clinched his first Formula Skip Barber win in Group 1 Race 1 and went on to earn the pole for Group 1 Race 2. Shelby Blackstock landed on the podium for all Formula Skip Barber races, in addition to earning the pole position for Group 1 Race 1.

In the Skip Barber Southern MAZDASPEED Challenge, Tyler Cooke previously held a one-point lead over McGregor, but now the two have switched places in the standings with McGregor now holding a four point lead over Cooke. Shelby Blackstock landed on the podium for both MAZDASPEED Challenge races as well, finishing second in Group 2 Race 1 and winning Group 2 Race 2. David Levine earned the pole and took home the checker for Group 2 Race 1. In Group 2 Race 2, Levine grabbed another podium finish, landing in third.

The final race of the Skip Barber Southern season will be April 15-16 at Sebring International Raceway.
